Can you tell us a little about the scope of your current role?

My current role is unique in nature. I am very involved with the financial strategy of the organization, as well as the contracting and revenue cycle operations. I have been also been instrumental in my role with Cost Reporting, Apply, and filing reports for CARES ACT funds, and leading a FEMA COVID-19 Public Assistance Project for Heritage Valley Health System.

Jennifer Dyrseth, MSITAM, CHAM, CHAA, CAC
Manager, Patient Financial Services
Olympic Medical Center

Can you tell us a little about the scope of your current role?

As the Manager of Patient Financial Services at Olympic Medical Center, I oversee the billing team for the hospital and 17 clinics. The financial counseling, reimbursement applications, patient accounts, and credit teams all report to me, and eventually I’ll also have authorizations and charge review. Our department encompasses about 50 incredibly talented professionals.

What motivated you to share your expertise as part of this online meeting?

I’m a firm believer in information sharing and not making people reinvent the wheel. If you’ve got something that’s working, it can only benefit peers, and patients, to share that with other organizations.

What topic are you most looking forward to discussing with peers?

I love financial counseling and revenue cycle, so I really appreciate the opportunity to discuss every aspect with peers. Especially now, during such a hard time for hiring. It’s great to hear other people’s perspectives on what they look for when seeking financial counselors.

Alexander Safavi
Manager, Patient Financial Services – Home Care
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Can you tell us a little about the scope of your current role?

Currently, I oversee the patient financial services (billing, cash posting and AR follow up) for the Home Care Department of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. We serve children who are discharged but who still require services at home, in the form of DME (Durable Medical Equipment), Enteral Formula, and high dollar infusion therapies. We are currently in the midst of a conversion to a new EHR system, while trying to juggle several other projects and the daily issues that tend to pop up.

What motivated you to share your expertise as part of this online meeting?

I was honored to be asked, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge. I think that there is a lot of hard work going into getting paid for services rendered in good faith, and maybe if we put our heads together, we can all learn some things.

What topic are you most looking forward to discussing with peers?

The challenges that come with dealing with the bureaucracies that are today’s medical insurance companies.
